Writers Strike: Everything Still Sucks

The moguls continue to play hardball. The writers continue to snipe at the them. Viewers are still screwed. The holiday season has done nothing to warm hearts when it comes to the writers strike. The latest dust-up is over the Oscarcast on Feb. 24.
While the writers have granted waivers to the SAG Awards (the actors are their allies) and the Independent Spirit Awards (the independents aren’t the moguls), they feel no such warmth toward the Oscars. So, no clips from past Oscarcasts, and no WGA writers will be allowed to work on the show. It’s not clear if host Jon Stewart and the many starry guests will cross picketlines to attend, or what they’ll say if they do. Oscars producer Gil Cates told the NY Post yesterday, "The only thing I can tell you without any equivocation is the show is going to go on. That’s absolutely for certain."
