Talks will go on - front channels, back channels, somewhere - over the weekend. But barring a last-minute settlement, which no one seems to be betting on, the writers strike begins Monday. Writers Guild officials announced the plan a few minutes ago in L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has gotten involved as a possible mediator, no doubt trying to avoid having 7 percent of L.A. county’s economy shut off in a matter of days. But there is yet to be word of a meaningful concession from the producers on DVD and Internet revenue, and until that comes, the writers seem determined to play hardball. That means picketlines instead of laptops on Monday.
