April 24th, 2008 — Without A Trace, Weeds, CSI, Leno, The Tudors, The Apprentice, Supernatural, My Name is Earl, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, 30 Rock, Scrubs, Smallville, The Office
Let’s see, a kickass "Survivor" - unless you prefer "Ugly Betty" or "My Name Is Earl" and "Scrubs" - followed by the first "The Office" since Jim showed us the engagement ring, followed by "30 Rock" - unless you prefer "Grey’s Anatomy" or "CSI" - followed by the return of "Lost." All new for the launch of May sweeps! And that’s not even mentioning "Without a Trace" or "Smallville" and the return of "Supernatural." Scripted television is back, baybee! On a night like this, that strike seems a distant memory. But we have a few hours to kill first. So here are a couple things to read…

April 9th, 2008 — Weeds
Mary Louise Parker (Nancy Botwin on "Weeds") has broken up with her fiancee, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Morgan is best known for his role on "Grey’s Anatomy," but he also plays Nancy’s dead husband Judah on "Weeds."
In flashbacks, of course, not as the actual mouldering corpse. This is the second split for the pair (left, in happier times) who broke up back in June before reconciling and getting engaged this year. Word is that they’re still going to be friends and everything. Of course.
What gets me is that he plays her dead husband. Does anyone else think it’s kind of weird to be dating someone that plays your dead husband on TV? I’m sure professional actors would probably get over it in about thirty seconds, but I’d get anxious spending all that time pretending they were dead.

February 14th, 2008 — Weeds
Yay! Showtime announced today it’s bringing "Weeds" back for a fourth season, to bow June 16. The comedy about a suburban widow turned pot dealer, starring the great Mary Louise Parker, will return Mondays at 9 with 13 episodes, followed at 9:30 by the similarly dark Britcom "Secret Diary of A Call Girl," featuring "Dr. Who" gal Billie Piper as a legal secretary with a kinky side job. It’s a good thing those writers are getting back to work, though. Last time we saw Parker’s put-upon suburban anti-heroine Nancy Botwin, her home, greenhouse and town were all burning down in a Cali wildfire started as part of a pot-dealer gang jihad she inadvertently (sort of) started.

November 15th, 2007 — Big Shots, Weeds, Movies, Grey's Anatomy
The Boston Globe says Thursday nights on ABC are filled with wimpy, emasculated men and the not-very-interesting women who rule their lives. Zero-sum game, they say. Boring, they say. "Grey’s" is OK, they say, but "Big Shots" is just terrible. Pardon me for saying this, but I told you so.Best Week Ever has a hilarious spin on "Kitchen Nightmares" - a template for a generic episode full of swearing and insults and incompetence. I love the bit about how the maitre’d has to learn not to punch customers in the genitals. You won’t believe how many times that’s happened to me at fine-dining establishments.
The same folks point us to a great promo from Showtime featuring clips of Mary-Kate Olsen as Tara on "Weeds." Hilarious. My favorite line is still the bit where she’s calling bingo numbers at the old folks’ home and says "B-9, like your tumor is benign." Awesome.
Finally, […]

October 26th, 2007 — Weeds, Grey's Anatomy
Some saw it coming. But last night’s "Grey’s Anatomy" made clear that Brooke Smith will be joining the regular cast after a number of guest appearances. That’s good news for "Grey’s" fans, who probably see the casting of the bisexual (or so we hear) Dr. Hahn as doubling their favorite character’s chances of a date on Saturday night. But those of us who are big "Weeds" fans instead - which is to say, me - are disappointed because it probably spells the end of Smith’s guest role on that show. As Valerie, the dead DEA agent’s first wife (long story), she provided a far more compelling antagonist for Mary Louise Parker’s drug-dealing suburban mom Nancy Botwin than any of the gangbangers and other drug-biz types Nancy rubs up against. Valerie could have been a much-needed friend for Nancy, had money not gotten in the way, and there’s an underlying affection […]

September 12th, 2007 — Weeds
First we hear that Michelle Tanner is on weed, and now Stephanie is pregnant! Is it something about being raised by Bob Saget that makes these kids grow up so fast?
Or maybe it’s that I failed to notice that Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie, is now 25, and married. Probably that. On the plus side, I hear she’s kicked that nasty meth habit.

September 5th, 2007 — Weeds, Kid Nation, Criminal Minds, Damages, Pushing Daisies, House
The folks at "Criminal Minds" tell the New York Times that Joe Mantegna is a fantastic replacement for Mandy Patinkin, and the show will be better than ever, and Mantegna was the one they were really serious about offering the part, despite all those reports about Geena Davis and others. Uh huh. … GMMR mulls bloggers as an avenue for TV publicity. … Ramblings Of A TV Whore mulls early release of pilots on the Internet, in light of the fact that we won’t be seeing "Pushing Daisies" online before the premiere. … TV Squad breaks down last night’s "Damages." … Televisionista offers up some "Private Practice" spoilers and even better pictures. … Ausiello sez former "ER" doc Michael Michele will pay a visit to "House" in an episode involving the, gulp, CIA. … Jerry Lewis sez he’s sorry for making a "fag "joke on the MDA telethon. Tut, […]
