May 14th, 2008 — Advertising, Saving Grace, The Closer
I’ll get to Turner’s program plans in a minute, but the focus of their announcements this week was an almost web-like way of targeting ads.
"TVinContext promises to be the first large-scale system that combines the precise placement possible in digital advertising with the world of television," Turner’s announcement said. "The initiative includes the examination and cataloging of thousands of scenes from Turner’s vast library of films and
TV series, plus the custom matching of advertising content to place spots adjacent to relevant scenes. If a movie features a scene about marriage, Turner will be able to place an ad in the next commercial break for a related product, such as wedding rings. A movie scene in a café could be followed by an ad for coffee." The system will initially be available to a limited number of clients this fall.
Just a little creepy, isn’t it?
Anyhoo, TNT in particular has big programming […]

September 11th, 2007 — The Closer
LAPD Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson, a transplanted southerner, would just be thrown for a loop, y’all, if she knew how popular she is. Last night’s summer-season finale of the TNT detective show starring Kyra Sedwick "set a new record for ad-supported cable’s largest live + same day audience ever for a single series telecast," the cabler said in an email blast. Now, that is a fairly specific set of criteria - not quite the same as "the most watched television show ever" - but in today’s fragmented channel environment, it’s pretty freakin’ impressive. TNT sez 9.2 million viewers in 6.8 million households tuned in for the episode either live or via their DVRs before the night was over. This has often been called the summer of the woman on cable, what with "Damages" and "The Starter Wife" and "Saving Grace" and "Weeds" and so on. But Brenda is kicking all […]

August 6th, 2007 — The Closer, YouTube, Video Top 5
Looks like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays. If you’re extra tired of the painful commutes to and from work after a great weekend and the four cups of coffee never kicked in at work, then we have a nice treat for you. This week we’re featuring shows that make Mondays a little less painful. They won’t make you want to not stab your boss in the eye with a fork on Mondays, but at least its a start.
We have interviews with the cast of Big Love and The Closer. You can enter to win a chance to appear on ABC Family’s Greek. Come check out what it takes to be a successful country singer on Six Degrees of Martina McBride. And find out if surgery in Hollywood is as painful as listening to the updates on Lindsay Lohan ad nauseum on Dr. 90210.
Finally, we have a bizarre YouTube […]

July 17th, 2007 — Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer, Ducky Does TV
This recap of THE CLOSER will be pretty short and sweet this week because to tell you the truth I was feeling like crap when I watched it and don’t really remember much of it.
I know that Dept. Chief Johnson and the rest of the PHD were working on a case of an old man […]

July 9th, 2007 — The Closer
Last week, "The Closer" was all slapstick in the "Benny Hill Goes to a funeral" sort of way. Seriously: who drops a casket and finds an extra body in it? Absurd.
Tonight, though, it’s going to get very serious as the case of a missing 8-year-old girl brings tensions in the team to a new high point. Of course, it’s all the same characters: Sgt. Gabriel invests too much emotional energy in the case, and Provenza is still a schmuck and has to break the rules to make things work smoothly. Duckyxdale has the whole scoop>>

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of tonight’s episode of THE CLOSER entitled “Ruby.” Remember how last week was such a fun, light, comical episode? It was just something to distract you from the hell on earth coming tonight. Yes, this is a Special Episode of The Closer but […]

Well it wouldn’t be THE CLOSER if Brenda Leigh wasn’t pissing off yet another scary (and connected) big boss man from some organization or another. If it’s not a foreign diplomat with terrorist connections, or a gang leader, or a serial killer, or a mob boss, or crooked cops, or politicians, then it must […]
