Super Bowl: Second Biggest Audience Ever?

Nielsen is still hedging its bets, but it looks like yesterday’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants could be the second most-watched TV show ever, after the 106 million people who watched the "M*A*S*H" finale back in 1983.  Nielsen told the AP that preliminary numbers show the game slightly topping last year’s Indy-Chicago tilt and likely to challenge the 94.1 million who watched the 1996 dallas-Pittsburgh tilt. As you can imagine, this comes as a mixed blessing to those of us who live in New England. Sigh.

UPDATED: Super Bowl Drew Second Biggest TV Audience Ever

Nielsen has confirmed that Sunday’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants was the second most-watched TV show ever, with 97.5 million viewers, behind only the 106 million people who watched the "M*A*S*H" finale back in 1983. It was the most-watched Super Bowl ever by more than three million viewers, topping the 1996 Dallas-Pittsburgh tilt. As you can imagine, this comes as a mixed blessing to those of us who live in New England. Sigh.
