Webisodes Set For “The Office,” “Heroes”

The other networks are announcing their falls schedules this week. NBC shot their wad a few weeks ago, but they’re still trying to get their share of press today with the Jimmy Fallon announcement and the Ryan Seacrest announcement. They’re also hoping to whet our appetites for new shows like "My Own Worst Enemy" (with Christian Slater as a suburban dad/superspy); a stateside remake of the Aussie sitcom "Kath & Kim" (with Molly Shannon); the island adventure series "Crusoe"; and the "Knight Rider" remake (even though this spring’s pilot movie sucked the big one). And of course "Friday Night Lights" will be back, after airing first on DirecTV, but we told you that back in march.
And there’s also this from NBC Digital Entertainment: a second season of webisodes on NBC.com for fans of "The Office," featuring current cast members, and new webisodes for "Heroes," both coming this summer.
"The Office" […]

NBC Wasn’t Kidding…

…when they said they were going to punt business-as-usual, adapting to changing times and fallout from the writers strike with moves that might have seemed radical even a year ago. Step one, announced via the Hollywood Reporter today, is that they’ll announce their 2008-09 schedule next week, far ahead of the usual May upfront sales hoopla. It will be interesting to see if any of the other networks follow suit, although what effect any of this will have on the viewer is not yet clear. They’re also talking about a 52-week schedule.

Original Content Not Actually That Original

I just got a press release from NBC with the title "NBC’S ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING CONTINUES INTO  FEBRUARY." Their examples of original programming include more "Celebrity Apprentice" and the premiere of "Lipstick Jungle." Uh, sorry, but that’s not "original" at all.
I know press releases are supposed to exaggerate, and I hate to call NBC out for something everyone is guilty of, especially since the writer’s strike has led us all to a sorry state, but still - can’t you guys call a spade a spade?

NBC Has New Programming For 2007. Really.

The peacock network thumbs its nose at the writers strike today with a press release boasting that it is "slated to deliver significantly more hours of original programming than was ever the case in the first quarter of 2007." The return of "Medium" and two "Law & Order" shows, as well the debut of "Lipstick Jungle" top the scripted programming, along with the few remaining episodes of "Friday Night Lights" and other shows. Reality program premieres include "The Baby Borrowers," which "puts teens on the fast track to adulthood." Specials  on the docket are the Golden Globes and yet another "Outrageous Moments" compilation. Yippee. Complete press release after the jump, with premiere dates.

NBC Buys “Quarterlife” -

Press releases will try to hail NBC’s acquisition of broadcast rights for "Quarterlife" as a victory for online videos and nontraditional TV production. Bullshit.Like I said just a couple days ago, "Quarterlife" is a second-rate show, and it wouldn’t be getting to the big leagues if they weren’t desperate for non-WGA writing. Studios are scrambling for anything that isn’t a straight-up reality show. They’ve already scheduled "Big Brother" season 9 to start early, and are promoting the dickens out of terrible concepts like "Crowned," a mother-daughter beauty contest.
My guess is that, while NBC will be glad to have the show during lean times caused by the strike, ABC’s decision to reject the pilot was probably the correct one.

Fall TV Night-By-Night: Tuesday

The most doomed hour of television this fall and a tough choice for viewers mark Tuesday’s lineup.

Many, me included, think ABC has lost its mind in opening this night with the new sitcoms "Cavemen" and "Carpoolers." "Cavemen," spun off from the Geico insurance ads, is a) bad b) controversial c) really bad or d) all of the above. As you may have guessed, the correct answer is (d). The producers say they’re trying to satirize prejudice, but for some viewers at least, they’re enacting it. "Carpoolers," on the other hand, is just bad. Some critics predict "Cavemen" will be the first show canceled this fall, although you can perhaps wonder if sheer novelty might earn it a reprieve. Otherwise, ABC is sitting pretty with returning shows "Dancing With The Stars" and "Boston Legal."
CBS stands pat for its more traditional viewers with "NCIS" and "The Unit" followed by the new Jimmy […]

MeeVee Video Top 5: Fall Preview 2–Bionic Woman, K-Ville, Cane, and more

Fall is coming. That means the leaves are gonna start changing colors, temperatures drop, and children everywhere begin to complain how much they hate their teachers. Fall is a time for change and the world of television is no exception. Some of your crappy guilty pleasure shows didn’t make the cut for the fall line-up and are replaced with potentially new crappy guilty pleasures. Hopefully, for the networks’ sake, the five shows we have previewed this week will be successful on their debut this fall.
Video Top 5 features five fresh shows coming to your sets this autumn. We have preview clips for Bionic Woman, Cane, Gossip Girl, and Carpoolers. As well as, the full pilot episode for K-Ville.
Also, in the wake of Miss South Carolina’s "blonde moment", our YouTube Clip of the Week plays off the classic dumb blonde jokes.
