May 12th, 2008 — Law and Order, Celebrity Train Wreck, Grey's Anatomy
Dennis Farina (right) is a a former Chicago cop, so he oughta know better. But the detective turned actor ("Law & Order," "Crime Story" and many movies like the current "What Happens in Vegas") got popped at LAX this weekend for having a loaded .22 in his carryon. He "forgot." Even he said it was stupid.
Isaiah Washington has already made himself something of a Hollywood pariah by a) getting in a scuffle with a "Grey’s Anatomy" co-star, b) using the word "faggot" during the dustup to refer to another co-star, c) denying he said it, d) saying it again and e) most damningly, failing to improve the ratings of "Bionic Woman" when he was added to the cast in a naked publicity grab midseason adjustment. So really, do you think it’s a good idea for him to lawyer up and start bitching just because "Grey’s" used his picture in a […]

April 23rd, 2008 — K-Ville, Law and Order
Jesse L. Martin is leaving "Law & Order" this week after nine years, moving on to a new production of "Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner" on Broadway. Replacing him in producer Dick Wolf’s repertory company is Anthony Anderson of "K-Ville" and "The Shield."
The NBC synopsis of Wednesday’s episode has Martin’s Detective Ed Green and Det. Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) investigating a referee’s murder, which leads them to notorious hustler, “"Bunny” (guest star Bobby Jones), a familiar face from Detective Green’s past. When "“Bunny” is found dead, the case is turned over to internal affairs Detective Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Sergeant Gregory Cole (guest star Peter Bradbury). (Above, Anderson; left, Martin.)
Wolf and Anderson got on the phone with reporters and bloggers a few days ago to talk about […]

April 21st, 2008 — CSI, Law and Order, Lost, American Idol
TV Guide says Tania Raymonde, otherwise known as Ben’s daughter on "Lost," is going to be in a high school sex comedy - based on Lysistrata, no less - and starring Rob Schneider and Rumer Willis. Shudder. Guarantee you the girl’s going to have a new agent the week after that movie comes out. I mean, seriously, Rob Schneider and Rumer Willis? Spending a lifetime in the tropical weirdness of the island sounds like a glorious vacation in comparison.
Last year’s "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks (right) has been forced to withdraw from Alicia Keys’ tour by the horrible sounding "acute vocal cord hemorrhage." You wouldn’t wish that on your worst enemy, would you? Get well soon, hon.
Jesse L. Martin has revealed his post-"Law & Order" plans. He’s apparently going to play the Sidney Poitier role in a new Broadway version of "Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner." Not exactly cutting edge, […]

April 16th, 2008 — K-Ville, Law and Order
The best thing about Fox’s short-lived "K-Ville" was Anthony Anderson’s fully committed performance (right) as a native N’awlins cop grappling with the desperation that Hurricane Katrina visited on his beloved city. He was the most convincing piece of local color in a series that had a lot of them, although it was quickly dragged down by cop-show cliches. ("The Wire" auteur David Simon is said to be working on a New Orleans series, and if he had helmed "K-Ville," it would have been a much realer, better show, worthier of Anderson and the city.)
Now that "K-Ville" has been canceled, we will at least get to see more of Anderson with a badge and gun. He’s joining NBC’s "Law & Order," replacing the departing Jesse L. Martin on one of TV’s all-time-busiest casting merry-go-rounds. The "L&O" format dictates that he has relatively limited space in which to create a character, but […]

April 15th, 2008 — Law and Order
If you’ve always wanted to experience the thrill of being interrogated by Ice-T, but haven’t had the guts to commit a crime worthy of the "Law & Order: SVU" squad, now’s your chance. In honor of a new season of "SVU" arriving tonight, they’ve launched a virtual interrogation minisite.
It’s actually pretty funny. When Ice tries to intimidate you into admitting you know the person in a photo, it turns out the person is ALF, the sitcom muppet from outer space.
Tonight’s episode is decidedly more serious: Detective Benson goes undercover as a prison inmate to expose a corrupt guard.

April 11th, 2008 — Law and Order
Vincent D’Onofrio is definitely looking more than a little unshaven in this picture from the set of "Criminal Intent" this week.
If previous episodes are any indication, that means something horrible is going to happen to him, and he’s going to spend a lot of time indoors, not shaving and looking sad.
On the other hand, he’s wearing a rather nice blazer, which doesn’t make much sense combined with his ragged beard.
What’s up, L&O? When I tune into your show, I expect that the wardrobe department will provide me with clear symbols of every character’s emotional state! I need to know what they’re feeling even when the TV is on mute! How dare you provide conflicting signs of emotion!?

February 21st, 2008 — Supernatural, K-Ville, Journeyman, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Big Brother, Pushing Daisies, Heroes, Jericho, Law and Order, Lost
"Lost" leads the TV nominations for the Saturn Awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy And Horror Films. Best Network Series nominees are: "Heroes," "Journeyman," "Lost," "Pushing Daisies," "Supernatural" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." "Journeyman"? Really? (TV Addict)
Lorne Michaels knows that "Saturday Night Live" is in a tough place as it returns to the air this week. (NY Times)
Fox now has the highest average network rating for the season. Yikes. (AP)
I guess "K-Ville" really isn’t coming back. Anthony Anderson is going to replacing Jesse L. Martin on "Law & Order." (Hollywood Reporter)
"Jericho" and "Big Brother" both had really bad weeks for CBS. (tvbythenumbers.com)

I love "Law And Order" as much as the next guy, but you have to admit, there are an awful lot of spinoffs. This Lulu 8Ball comic illustrates the problem:

September 11th, 2007 — Reaper, Fall Shows '07, Cane, Carpoolers, Cavemen, Bones, Law and Order, FOX, NBC, House
The most doomed hour of television this fall and a tough choice for viewers mark Tuesday’s lineup.
Many, me included, think ABC has lost its mind in opening this night with the new sitcoms "Cavemen" and "Carpoolers." "Cavemen," spun off from the Geico insurance ads, is a) bad b) controversial c) really bad or d) all of the above. As you may have guessed, the correct answer is (d). The producers say they’re trying to satirize prejudice, but for some viewers at least, they’re enacting it. "Carpoolers," on the other hand, is just bad. Some critics predict "Cavemen" will be the first show canceled this fall, although you can perhaps wonder if sheer novelty might earn it a reprieve. Otherwise, ABC is sitting pretty with returning shows "Dancing With The Stars" and "Boston Legal."
CBS stands pat for its more traditional viewers with "NCIS" and "The Unit" followed by the new Jimmy […]

August 23rd, 2007 — Canterbury's Law, 24, Law and Order, Lost
Reports from here, there and everywhere say Rebecca Mader (left), formerly of "Justice," is joining the cast of ABC’s "Lost," perhaps in the hottie-prof Kristen Bell turned down in favor of a spot on "Heroes." … Colm Feore is joining the cast of this season’s "24" as First Husband of President Cherry Jones. … TV Guide says Aidan Quinn is joining "Canterbury’s Law" as the husband of Julianna Margulies’ character. If you think about it, though, this is a casting choice with national political implications. He replaces Linus Roache, who is moving to a larger and/or better role as the new assistant prosecutor on "Law & Order," now that Sam Waterston is the DA. Waterson got the promotion because Fred Thompson left to maybe run for president in the real world. So really, Aidan Quinn just got an acting job because Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney don’t have the full support […]
