April 30th, 2008 — Kids
The Shins song “New Slang” is one of my absolute favorites, so I was pretty happy to hear that they were making an appearance on “Yo Gabba Gabba” to sing to kids and parents alike.
It’s every bit as adorable and sweet as I had hoped.

Disney stars with webcams: You know this will come to no good. But in the mean time, Selena Gomez ("Wizards of Waverly Place") and Demi Lovato ("Camp Rock") tell their friends and fans about their favorite colors, and why they wear purity rings: Because True Love Waits.
Whatever happened to the three-date rule? Is the whole "purity ring" and "purity ball" phenomenon something like Corey Feldman’s anti-drug propaganda from the 1980s, where he was totally high during all those "Just Say No" photo ops with Nancy Reagan?

The heinous little Sprouse Brothers take their "Suite Life" characters, Zack and Cody, on a cruise ship to create "The Suite Life On Deck." Great. I’m sure their parents are proud of them, but every other parent I know is cringing in horror. Can anyone say "Brats overboard!"

Nickelodeon hit “Zoey 101″ airs the final episode of season 3 tomorrow, and although filming for season 4 is already complete, speculation is everywhere that the network will drop the show rather than broadcast something starring the now-radioactive Jamie Lynn Spears. It’s not a certainty, of course, and it’s likely that Nick will wait and see if the scandal blows over rather than cancel the show outright.
As huge a mistake as getting pregnant might be, it somehow didn’t make it into the blooper reel:

My friends with children tell me that the best holiday dance is the Jumping Jellyfish, as demonstrated by Hector Jimenez on “Yo Gabba Gabba!” Sadly, Hector’s spot on the show has been disappeared from the interwebs because Viacom hates dancing.
Instead, here’s a clip featuring shoegazing indie-rockers Low, singing about families and what makes a family tree:
You can find more “Yo Gabba Gabba!” related videos in the interest channel for the show.

October 26th, 2007 — Kids, High School Musical
"High School Musical" is taking the world by storm, including Argentina, where Canal Trece has just concluded a reality competition (for some reason, it’s called "High School Musical, La Selección" and not "Teatro Musical De Colegio" ) to determine who will star in a live Argentinian version of the musical. If you read Spanish, you can find an article about the it at Diario El Litoral, or head over to ONTD for the pictures of the new production’s stars.
Also, the Jonas Brothers will be playing a second gig in New York City. After their November 7th concert with Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, they’ll be appearing at the Knitting Factory, a rock club better known for bands that are old enough to drink. The Knitting Factory calendar doesn’t have any information about the show yet, but there’s room in the calendar: two other gigs are listed that night, but they’re early shows.

October 18th, 2007 — Naked Brothers Band, Kids
The tween
actor-brothers who play rock stars on Nickelodeon’s “The Naked Brothers Band” are turning into their TV characters. Nat and
Alex Wolff just released their first CD, which debuted at No. 23 on
the Billboard charts.
Twelve-year-old Nat penned most of the songs
and is the band’s lead singer. Nine-year-old Alex plays the
drums and also sings. The rest of the band is composed of the kids’
friends in New York. The musician brothers sent their young fans into
a swoon last week, when they held a CD release party at Virgin
Records in New York.
Nickelodeon, meanwhile, is working hard to build
a franchise around the Wolff brothers, whose weekly show draws nearly
3 million viewers. (Disney has used a similar multi-platform formula to
turn Miley Cyrus of “Hannah Montana” into a TV and radio
superstar.) The Nickelodeon website features online games starring Nat and
Alex, and the new Naked Brothers’ TV movie, “The Battle of
the Bands,” is also out on […]

September 25th, 2007 — Kids, Hannah Montana
With the hyper-success of “High
School Musical 2” and “Hannah Montana,” Disney is replicating its comedy-musical
formula with “J.O.N.A.S.,” which starts production in January and features three
real-life singing siblings who already have a string of wholesome hits on Radio
Disney.
The Jonas Brothers, who describe their high-energy pop numbers as “music
on Red Bull,” will play secret agents in what is billed as a live-action spy
comedy. Picture the 1960s TV Monkees – with some talent. The self-described
Christian rockers – Nick, Kevin and Joe – already are a hit with the tween set
and have gotten some respectful nods from music critics. Their self-titled
second album recently reached No. 5 on the Billboard charts. The brothers also
are something of a male Cinderella story. The teens were virtually unknown when represented by Columbia Records, but they shifted to a Disney-backed label and
have had success on the music charts. The Disney machine seems committed to
making them crossover hits on […]

September 12th, 2007 — Dancing with the Stars, Kids, On DVD, Grey's Anatomy
Yahoo! talks up Nick product "iCarly," about a girl named Carly, her friend Sam, and their vlog. It’s the next big thing for tweens. Sure, I’ve heard that before. Anyway, worth checking out if you’re a parent. I’m not sure I’d let my kid have a webcam, but then again, I’ve seen what Vanessa Hudgens did with hers.
BuzzSugar is seriously excited about the new "Grey’s" DVD. It’s called "Grey’s Anatomy Season 3, Seriously Extended." Seriously. OK, I get it. That’s a catchphrase on the show. Seriously, can we stop saying that?
Tate Donovan, who played a spoiled grownup surrounded by spoiled rich kids on "The OC," says the young actors were spoiled rich kids in real life, and they ditched the show because they thought the small screen was too small for them. Donovan is now working on "Damages," and the kids are… well, if there’s any justice in the world, […]
