“Dexter” Video Game?

A "Dexter" video game? IGN says it’s in the works. I don’t see how this could possibly be any good, but I guess people are suckers for video games based on TV shows just like they’re suckers for movies based on video games.

“Dexter” Gets Extra Publicity From Concerned Conservatives

Ned Flanders and his friends at the Parents Television Council sure are doing a bang-up job of telling teenagers about this awesomely violent new show that’s just been moved from Showtime to CBS, barely cut down at all!
"Dude, did you hear about ‘Dexter?’"
"Not until my parents told me I shouldn’t watch it: That’s when I downloaded all the episodes I’d missed."
"Me too! I feel like I’ve spent the whole weekend in a fine mist of blood and viscera!"

Awwww, “Dexter” In Love

I suppose I should have posted this "Dexter" clip last Thursday, but his monologue about love and sex and dating is absolutely brilliant. "It’s not that I have anything against women… but the act itself seems somehow undignified." What a perfect boyfriend. Except for the whole killing thing. You can find a lot more "Dexter" video over at the MeeVee video hub. Just search for "Dexter."

Morning Reading: “Jericho,” “Dancing With The Stars” And More

Martha Stewart chows down on Emeril’s company. (Reuters)
Mocking the new cast of celebs on "Dancing With The Stars." A prediction from here: Don’t count out Penn Jillette. (GMMR)

Appreciating what makes "Jericho" different: "Think for a moment about how often you have heard the name Manolo Blahnik on television, and then consider the last time you heard a reference to Wrangler. A large part of the show’s appeal comes simply from its refusal to play games of coastal narcissism." (NY Times)
"American Idol" and Apple make a love connection, which will make it easier for all fans to download performances to their iPods. (TV Squad)
Deep thinking about CBS’ Sunday ratings problems. In context, "Dexter" did OK. (TVByTheNumbers.com)
Expect "Knight Rider" to return, even though it sucks without Will Arnett as the car. (Hollywood Reporter)
Autism group complains about insensitive comment on "Big Brother." Apparently they’ve neevr seen the show. (AP)

“Dexter” Is Must-See TV On Sunday, If You Dare

For traditional CBS viewers, accustomed to seeing their serial killers through a gauzy scrim of shallow  moralizing and pretentious literary quotations - I’m talking to you, "Criminal Minds" fans - "Dexter" will be a walk on the wild side.

For "Dexter" fans, the stakes may be even higher when the hit Showtime series moves to the eye network at 10 p.m. Sunday. They’re got to worry whether the re-cutting and re-recording necessary to meet broadcast standards - liberal as they are these days - will ruin this very edgy show.
Either way, this is must-see TV, devilishly clever and terrifically put together, with a star performance by Michael C. Hall ("Six Feet Under") that is funny and scary and, you’ll pardon the expression, surgically precise at delineating the difference.
And unlike so many TV crime shows that exploit serial killing for lurid thrills then off a neat moral wrapup at the end - […]

“Dexter,” Strike Fallout And Other Morning Reading

NBC isn’t suing anybody after all. Maybe even the Golden Globes aren’t suing anybody. But they’re definitely not both suing the WGA. Unless they are. (Deadline Hollywood Daily)
Writers are funny, especially when they go back to work after three months off. (NY Times)
Clips from "Dexter" (right), for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure, in advance of the show’s CBS debut on Sunday. (GMMR)
Hilarious though redacted story of craven executive behavior at Dexter’s cable home, Showtime. (Deadline Hollywood Daily)
Another writers-back-to-work story with one really good line from a writer with academic cred who went to work for Tom Fontana: "Tom always joked when he hired me that he was going to kill the poet inside of me," he said. Joked, right. (AP)
A brutal takedown of the main NY Times writer who covered the strike. (NY Press)
Tim Robbins making a pharmaceutical drama for Showtime. That should be good. (Hollywood Reporter)

CBS Announces Post-Strike Schedule

CBS today unveiled a no-frills list of premiere dates and episode counts for its shows returning after the strike. The plans are ambitious, especially for the comedies. "How I Met Your Mother," "Big Bang Theory" and "Two And A Half Men" (left) are all set to return on March 17, producing nine more episodes for the season. That’s going to call for a lot of extra Skittles in the writers’ room, I’d say. Another Monday show, "CSI Miami," is due back March 24 and expected to produce eight more hourlong episodes, which is, come to think of it, almost twice as much television as nine episodes of a sitcom.
Other shows’ return dates and episode counts: "Cold Case," March 30, five. "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY," April 2 and seven each. "CSI" and "Without A Trace," April 3 and six. "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numb3rs," April 4 and six. "NCIS," April 8 […]

TV Critics Love “Pushing Daisies,” Hate “Cavemen”

(Begin pointless personal digression.) I have a soft spot for the semi-annual TV Week Critics Poll. (Read the story here and results here.) Back when the magazine was called Electronic Media, I used to be in the poll all the time, and I started talking to the people over there - we were all in Chicago at the time - and I ended up getting hired as assistant managing editor and getting a whole different look at the industry. While I worked there I ran the poll a couple of times, too, which gave me lots of time to talk to my critic friends who I only got to see on press tour otherwise. So this poll is like an old pal. (End pointless personal digression.)
But seriously, "Pushing Daisies" is better than "Mad Men"??? I don’t think so. Better than "House" or "The Office"?? Really? Uh, no.Ten Best Series1. Pushing […]

“Dexter” Is Coming

Michael C. Hall deserves all the accolades he’s gotten for his cold-as-ice performance as Dexter, the forensic scientist/serial killer on Showtime’s "Dexter." And now, thanks at least in part to the writers strike, an edited version of the very, very grownup show is coming to CBS. It’s not clear how much will be edited or what effect that will have on the show’s impact. But this new CBS promo gives you an idea what to expect:
