The Oscars are this Sunday, which marks the high point of the annual self-congratulation season in the entertainment industry, and the high point of televised, poorly choreographed idiocy. However, in the UK, they’re making a good run for the statuette in the "poorly choreographed idiocy" category. Last night’s Brit Awards was filled with arguing and swearing on stage, and drew a surprisingly large number of formal complaints, despite a tape delay that allowed broadcasters to bleep out offending portions of the speeches.
The major problems were the hosts, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, and the amount of booze provided to the audience and presenters. Heatworld reports that Sharon, angered by one presenter’s comments, ran up and tried to grab the award from him so she could present it properly, yelling "Shut up, you’re pissed, piss off you bastard!"
