We all know that there are plenty of international versions of "Americas Next Top Model." Some show promise of continuing for as long as the original, while others have splintered into their own, even more local versions: "Scandinavia’s Next Top Model" was canceled after 3 seasons when Norwegian and Finnish networks began production of their own versions of the show.
But I think the most interesting development is the just-completed Chinese edition of the show. China isn’t known for wanting unpredictable or vulgar material, particularly not sexy, gossipy, scantily-clad models, on its airwaves. But just as the world loves Chinese manufactured products, so China loves foreign entertainment - especially when adjusted slightly for local tastes. Expect more clothing and less trash-talking on "China’s Next Top Model," and emphasis on hard work and family values as well as beauty and the ability to sell product.
